CCBD Response to Firearms in Schools

The school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut have resulted in reactionary responses.  As the leader in teaching and advocacy for children with emotional and behavioral disorders, the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders (CCBD) recognizes the need to provide guidance and support in framing our nation’s response related to issues of school safety and mental health.  As such, CCBD with the Council for Exceptional Children urges the following policy recommendations:

CCBD Response to Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting

Dear CCBD Members,

It is with a heavy heart that we return to work this morning in light of the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The senseless loss of life is incomprehensible. As a profession, we lost four dedicated educators affiliated with special education in this tragedy.
