Mission Statement

CCBD is dedicated to supporting the professional development and enhancing the expertise of those who work on behalf of children with challenging behavior and their families. CCBD is committed to students who are identified as having emotional and behavioral disorders and those whose behavior puts them at risk for failure in school, home, and/or community. CCBD supports prevention of problem behavior and enhancement of social, emotional, and educational well‐being of all children and youth.

Vision Statement

CCBD is an international community of educators which is the voice and vision of special education for children and youth with or at risk of emotional and behavioral disorders. CCBD is a diverse, vibrant professional organization that works together and with others to ensure that these students are valued and included in all aspects of life. CCBD is a trusted leader in shaping education policy and practice and is globally renowned for its expertise and leadership in:

  • Promoting and publishing research that improves policy and practice for children and youth with or at risk of emotional and behavioral disorders;
  • Providing professional development opportunities that improve policy and practice for children and youth with or at risk of emotional and behavioral disorders;
  • Advocating on behalf of individuals with emotional and behavioral disorders and partnering with other organizations and individuals who share this commitment; and
  • Extending critical professional support to our colleagues in these endeavors, the members of CCBD.

Goals

  1. Advocate for quality educational services and program alternatives for children and youth with emotional or behavioral disorders.
  2. Promote awareness of bias in the identification and treatment of children and youth with emotional or behavior disorders and engage in efforts to reduce racial, cultural, and gender over‐representation.
  3. Disseminate relevant and timely information through professional meetings, training programs, publications, and electronic media.
  4. Provide professional support to persons who work with children and youth with emotional or behavioral disorders.
  5. Support and recognize the exemplary contributions of persons engaged in research, training, and practice on behalf of children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders.
